EDF rip off?
HI all
Just want some advice really!!
We are a working couple. We work long hours. Usually we leave the flat around 8am and come in at 8pm 5 days per week. So we are in only at nights and weekends. The problem is that EDP is charging us 1074 pounds per year.
My question is... We have 1 bed flat, electricity only, we only turn on storage heaters when is really cold (still only between 8pm and maybe 11pm),.we do only one wash per week (when is done) but we cook dinner every day.
I made a complaint of overcharge to see if someone can find a mistake. So we received 2 bills. 1st one saying that from the 4th of August 2014 to 4th of February 2015 (185 days) we are in CREDIT of 280 pounds.
The second bill comes from 4th of August 2014 to 30 od December 2015 (514 days) we are in debit of 630 pounds - 280 in credit. So we are in debit of 350 ponds.
We are really confused and thinking that something is really wrong with them or with us lol
Dont you guys think thats something strange in here? please help us:(

How many KWh are you using? It should be on a recent bill.
And what tariff are you on? Again, it should be on your bill.
Without these pieces of information, it's hard to give meaningful advice.
It's also worth mentioning that most people work, and hence are not in during the daytime, and average bills are around £1k a year, so nothing you're saying is sounding outrageous at first glance.0 -
Hi. Are you providing EDF with frequent ACTUAL meter readings? If not, you should be as, unless you have a smart meter, EDF hasn't a clue about how much energy you are using. Credit/Debit balances on websites are meaningless as they are only accurate up to the date of the last bill based on ACTUAL meter readings. Look back to your last bill with an actual meter reading (that is, not estimated); take an actual meter reading now and do the sums for yourself. Sorry if this sounds harsh - it is not meant to be - but close monitoring of your actual usage is the only way to avoid nasty billing surprises. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Please check that the day and night rates are identified correctly and billed properly. These meters are always getting transposed reads leading to a credit one week and a debit the next when a meter reader comes round and makes mistakes.0

If you have storage heaters running on E7, then turning them on between 8 and 11pm would be completely useless, as they operate on cheap night rate power, typically between midnight and 7am or 1am and 8am. Even if they were powered up, they wouldn't charge in 3 hours anyway. So I'm not convinced you have E7 or NSH's. And what about weekends.
For meaningful help you need to tell us your tariff and your annual kWh usage (on both registers if E7).
Forget your washing and cooking, it's not what matters. tell us how you heat and hot water the flat, as that typically accounts for 75% of your usage.
How can you allege overcharging unless you have checked your bill and calculated what you have actually used?
However as above my hunch is that you are paying based on a much higher estimated usage, combined with no meter reads. The supplier only has to read every two years, all intermediate reads are down to you, and should be done at least quarterly. So read and submit now if the bill is estimated. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

You need to do your maths first relating to how many storage heaters and how much electricity they use each.
Use this formula.
((Max Heater Kilo Watt Output x Electricity cost per Kwh) x Duration per day) + Daily Fixed Standing Charge x 1.05 VAT
This represents 1 day for 1 heater.
Then multiply this by 356 x how many heaters you got.
Get it all on a spreadsheet first.0 -

yeah I know the majory of us work but... its one bed flat really small, I barely use heaters and if I use I only use one of them :S0

I just use one storage heater 3 hours per day on Boost mode and the other ones are always off. My idea is better 3 hours on expensive rate than 7 on cheap rate but not taking advantage of the heat. Maybe is not the correct. Hot water is used for 2 showers in the morning and washing up at night (sometimes i do not have hot water left at night but i do not use the boost to warm it up)0

You are using about 42% on night rate, so E7 is the right tariff-however your annual usage is based on estimates. So the first thing you need to do is read your meters, submit them and get an updated billing.
Have you checked that your £55 DD has actually been taken in the period in in question? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
