Large air pots ?
Hi...we have purchased a large maple tree that is currently in a big plastic container. We really donot want to plant it in the garden , as it will be too close to the house,so I have been searching for either a really big air pot or one of these root pouches but have had no success ? Does anyone have any ideas? I am loathed to put it in a bigger plastic pot because of the weight. Help !!!!

Japanese maple? Not sure any other type would do well in a container.0

I have my LBS trade catalogue right here :-)
Easi-Fill white planter tree bags go up to 300ltr volume with a diameter of 60cm, height 80cm, fabric weight 200g/m sq (so not massively long lasting but pretty good). £9.22 each. side drainage which will also assist with root pruning, UV stabilised, fully guaranteed for sub-zero and hot weather.0 -
could you use the drum of an old washing machine? they are pain to remove but would do the job, they can be huge especially industrial ones, for reference I have used laundry tubs from £1 shops and lined with weed suppressing fabric which works reall well, and also metal baskets from shreders.
another thought is using giant tyres from tractors, as this is not edible tree this would be fine.0 -
TBH the weight is the soil/water, not a the plastic pot.
Have you considered managing the style of a bonsai, with pruning of the upper and constraining the roots?
And/or get a roller to help when moving the pot0
