AVCDH Format problems DVD/Camcorder

Please could anyone help?
My Dad is 95 and still loves using his camcorder and creating DVDs.
He does not have a computer and would never cope with one.
He recently had to buy a new camcorder and bought a Panasonic HC-V270. This records in AVCHD format.
He wants to download this onto his DVD recorder which is a SONY RDR DC100 and then create a DVD.
Seems this is not compatible with the AVCHD format. It requires MPEG - 2 instead.
The old chap is devastated that he cannot create DVDs to bore the family with.
He would be happy to buy either a different DVD player or change his new camcorder in order to get something compatible. I have looked on line and am unable to identify two units which would definitely be compatible.
Could anyone help? His sad little face is really upsetting me.

There's a bunch of free video converters that can convert from AVCHD to other formats, then use a free burner to burn to dvd http://en.softonic.com/s/download-free-avchd-video-converter“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

AVCHD is an upto 17kbps MPEG4 stream for HD consumer grade video. DVD is a standard definition MPEG2 stream. Depending on the inputs and outputs from the camera and recorder, it may be easiest to just record in real-time via a cable. Transcoding is slow, and going via a cable means the work is done in hardware dedicated chips, not on the computer!
Another option might be too get some kind of DVR that will take HD (and a TV that'll support it?!), you can get quite modestly sized DVR devices inexpensively, so could be with experimenting!
My sympathies for watching loads of home-shot films, just remember he was born before talkies, it really is magic ;-)0 -
Here's a good free burner, available for only 6 more hours http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

Older Panasonic Blu-ray recorders are supposed to be able to copy AVCHD to disc.

But finding one could be difficult.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
