Think I may be out of luck - TV Repair, Retailer shut down.

Hi guys

I think I may be S.O.O.L. on this one, and from reading around I think my rights may be gone due to the details surrounding the retailer, but I figure it's worth asking the question in case anyone has hit anything similar.

Bought a new TV in October 2014. It developed a thick line down the screen. I was on holiday when it happened. Mum said she thought one of the grandkids had crashed into the screen.

Explained this to Samsung who said I had to pay for the repair due to it being down to an accident. They don't repair screens, so pointed me in the direction of their local repair agent.

Spent over £1000 getting the screen fixed.

3 weeks later the processor box packed up. They replaced that under warranty.

A couple of months later the new screen packed up, Samsung told me to take it back to the repair company.
They ordered a new screen from Samsung.
Fitted the new screen, which packed up before it had even left the repair shop.
Ordered a 4th screen.

9 months later, this 4th screen has packed up.

Contacted Samsung who said they wont deal with it, to contact their repair company.
The repair company have said they only provide a 3 month guarantee on their work, its not their fault the screen supplied by Samsung has packed up.

So I've a 9 month old screen which has died and neither side will do anything about it.

Was considering small claims court, but from reading on here and which it seems as though I can only take the retailer to court, but the retailer I bought the tv from has since gone out of business.

Think I may be out of luck, but was wondering whether in this case whether the repair company could be deemed the "retailer" of the new screen that I purchased ?

Any suggestions would be useful, but I fear the worse on this.

2800 quid to be written off in under 18 months.

Ouch.

The repair company sold you the new screen. If you are confident the fault relates to the part they supplied then it is them that are responsible for providing a remedy.

Both the retailer and Samsung are well out the picture on this one (no pun intended) your rights now lie with the repair shop.
  • Thanks guys, Ill aim a letter at them then.
