Amending Incorrect info on credit file

I had an account with shop direct which was defaulted on in January 2010. I have the original default notice available - thank god I don't throw anything away!
The account was purchased by Arrow direct in 2012 and I have been making payments via a DMP ever since.
Arrow direct are showing on my credit file from 30/11/2012, but they have not registered that the account is defaulted. This means that it won't drop off my file after six years from the date the default was registered, instead it will stay on until 6 years for account settlement date. This won't be for a while yet, as there is still money outstanding .
How do I go about getting Arrow to correct the details, and show that the account was defaulted in 2010. Is there a template letter I can use? I know if I phone them they are just going to fob me off. Is it even Arrow I need to contact or should it be shop direct ' now Very' who held the original account
Many thanks in advance

A default notice under the consumer credit act does not always automatically mean a default should be put on your credit file. They are similarly named, but not legally the same thing.
However, as this has been sold to a debt collector, and that is a key indicator that your relationship with the original creditor "broke down" then the argument that a default on your credit file should have been recorded is a strong one.
Complain to Arrow stating that unless they correctly record a default of the appropriate date, you will be forced to take them to the FOS and report them to the ICO.
If Arrow have to liaise with Very to get that done, then that is what they'll have to do, but it's Arrow's responsibility as data controller now.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
