£60 for 3 light switches? You could run 3 x 100 watt bulbs for about 2000 hours each for that much, so recovering the cost will take years. Whereas an LED bulb will reduce the running cost by about 90%.
If you want to make the point, deduct the cost from their pocket money.

Remove their light bulbs until they agree, in writing, not to leave the lights on.

Then take a £10 cash deposit which is lost every time they leave a light on.

Minumum load 40w so not suitable for low energy lightbulbs. TLC do sell capacitors to allow low energy use but don't say how low. When I checked last, the few time lag switch sellers who would reveal anything quoted 7w consumpion when not in use so uses as much when light is off as an LED lamp itself! Seems ironic that you can buy clever clogs heating controllers like the Nest but a decent cheap simple time lag switch is nowhere to be found.

Maplins leaflet has some smart LED bulbs, you can switch them on and off via your phone. £59.99 each though.
