Garage won't give full refund

Hi all
Bought a car back in may for 2,600. Came with a three month warranty. Car developed an engine diagnostics warning lightin those 3 months. So the garage took it in to fix it. When it came back it was fine for a couple of weeks and then same light came back on. Garage took it in and fixed it again. After another few weeks the light was back on, but it was outside of the initial warrenty, even though it was the same fault. The garage again took it back and have tried to fix it. 7 months down the line, they now say they cannot fix it but have only offered us 1500 instead of the full amount. Where do we stand? Can't say I'm overly happy with that amount since the fault first came to light during the warranty. Thanks for any advice

You have had 7 months use out of it so you are not going to get a full refund. Try negotiating a better price or if your still not happy take them to the small claims court and see what they think is fair.0

Perhaps look up the price of cars with same specs at time you bought it (ie what mileage/age it was when you bought it) versus what a car of its current mileage/age goes for and use that as a starting point to figure out what might be seen as an acceptable deduction. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

Thanks for your quick replies and helpful advice. Guess I am just annoyed at the whole situation. Very frustrating, but I do appreciate your impartial comments

when i first got my scenic i used to buy my petrol at asda, after roughly 2 months my engine management light came on for no reason at all, then one day while talking to a fitter at work about this management light on my dash he asked me the same question "where do i buy my petrol from" asda i said, there you go thats your problem.
next fill up i went to esso garage and put in regular 95 grade fuel soon after a few days passed and the management light went out and never came back on, i have never bought asda petrol since.
Fact or fiction it worked for me. as for supermarket fuel your saving like 1p per litre as opposed to an esso or shell garage who sell cleaner petrol that does return a couple more miles per gallon, and is cleaner for your engine.0 -
Hmm interesting. Will give it a go. Thanks0

You don't seriously expect to get the price back that you paid for it after 7 months and xxx miles? What would you consider a fair refund price? No free lunch, and no free laptop
