Alternative to full re-plaster/skim

Having just stripped the old fashioned wallpaper from our hallway, we are left with not horrifically bad plastered walls, but obviously not perfectly smooth and flat.
Rather than pay to fully re-skim every wall, is there a cheaper alternative we could use, ideally on a paint roller just to even out the walls a bit? The best i could find online was - Polycell SmoothOver for Damaged and Textured Walls
Cheers all.

You could try putting a plain lining paper up.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I tried that polycell in an old house- it doesn't compensate for any imperfections really so it's a bit pointless.
I've always skimmed over patches where there's defects (e.g areas where paint underneath has come off with the wallpaper) with filler using a finishing trowel, sanded it down with a decent hand sander until smooth. I get a pretty much perfect finish this way.0 -

Having recently done an entire house, most of the walls were pants. Here was my process:
Borrow/buy an orbital Orbital sander.
Borrow/buy a wet and dry (wickes own model is good).
Buy a roll of 80-grit aluminium oxide (green) paper.
Buy some powdered filler.
Take a template piece of paper from the sander, and cut as many out from your sandpaper as you can bear (probably while watching TV).
Patch up wall with filler.
Attach exhaust port of sander to a wet & dry vac.
Wear a good mask.0
