Understanding induction hob /oven power requirements, and whats installed

Hello!

I'm soon to be having a new induction cooker hob (replacement for ceramic) and an oven - and trying to understand what the power requirements are for the units and what I have to power them at home.

Its a relatively new flat, 8 years old - The old hob has its own fuse in the fuse box (says 32b on it), and a switch by the hob to cut the power.

Whats the max power rating I can use for this? Some hobs seem to be 7.6KW in total, others less - can I install one of the more powerful ones? Others seem to be 1.4 > 2.1 per plate with a boost to 3.7.

My aim is to have the hottest hob - think wok-heat. I appreciate thats never going to happen - but want one as hot as reasonably possible.

I think the oven is on a loop with the washing machine, cooker hood and washing machine - so presumably this is a standard 240v oven? (referred to multi gang in the fuse box, with a dedicated switch panel for the above in the kitchen)

So my questions are:

- What is the max power I can run the hob at - 7.6Kw? is 3.7Kw too much for the power for one plate? Can I get hotter than 3.7kw on a plate?

- Is the over a standard 240v oven - pretty much any consumer unit is fine to install?

Thanks!

Chris

  • 32 Amp is 7.3 kW at 230 volts, so that is the maximum instantaneous power you can have. Most induction hobs have an installer setting which limits the total power to match the circuit.

If the oven is on a 32A ring circuit then the maximum per appliance is 13 Amp or 3 kW and must be protected by a 13A fuse. There are some cookers which are intended for Europe and require 16 Amp or 20 Amp supply.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • Awesome, exactly what I wanted to know, thank you very much
