My daughter is considering buying an Ipod and has a couple of questions:-
1) She has some tracks she downloaded from Tesco and burnt onto a CD - will she be able to transfer from this type of CD to an ipod?
2) We have 1.1 usb ports on our PC - are these compatible with using an ipod?
If there is anything else we may not have thought of that anyone feels we should consider we would be pleased to hear of it.
Thanks

Yes- you can use the itunes software to burn the songs off the CD to the computer.
Yes- you can still use the ipod even if you only have usb 1.1 ports. The only downside to not having faster usb ports is that transfering songs to the ipod will take longer.
You might want to consider downloading the itunes software before you buy and ipod because then you already have the software on the computer. The download was 30mb when i got it, so if you dont have broadband get someone to download it for you.
You might also want to get a charger or dock so that you can charge your ipod if you go away on holiday or something. You can get docks that charge your ipod or chargers anyway and they arent that expensive.
If you dont buy a charger you can only charge your ipod on a computer with the software loaded on it.
Hope this helps you.0 -

Don't iPods come with mains chargers now? I have two, both came with mains chargers.
You also don't need to have the software installed to charge the battery - I've never installed iTunes and mine charge happily.0 -

iPod videos are the iPods that do NOT come with the mains chargers.
Take it your two are 4th Gen iPods.
Mains Chargers are about £19, but you can use your USB port on anything to charge the iPod up.0 -

If your washing machine has a USB port on it then you can! Dont try to be smart, USB port is where a USB plug goes into. So you take your iPod cable and with the USB plug you push it into a USB port.0 -

Ah, didn't know that. one is 4th gen, one is video. That one came from apple refurb. I'm probably wrong and that one didn't come with a charger. I do remember having one charger, though I have no idea where it is.
I'll have to find it now, and stick it on ebay :rotfl:0 -

Sorry, may be a stupid question, but not fully understanding this thing about transferring music from CDs. Can I transfer music from a CD onto my ipod via itunes?
Or is the ONLY way to get music on my ipod to buy it from itunes? If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0 -

Yep. iTunes will allow you to convert the music on the CD into a file that iTunes can then transfer to the iPod to store and play. It's pretty simple to do.
If the music on the CD is already stored as files, then these can be copied to the computer and added to the library of music in iTunes. They can then be put onto the iPod. Again, nice and simple.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Absolutely not.
I have a huge amount of music on my iPod, and I have never signed up for an iTunes Store account and downloaded any music via there.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
