Why do you expect to get a free meter change? The typical cost of £60 per meter is already heavily subsidised. If you can save that cost in a year or so, it's still worth paying for it.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Try EDF for a free exchange to a credit meter. It seems this supplier is also stupid enough to let you have a credit meter without a check to see if you are credit worthy. BG def do online top ups but credit check and may charge ( but not always ). Eon do online top ups , they credit check all new customers on credit meters.

Just a quick heads up sacsquacco. We don't yet have the capability for online top ups for all customers. It's something we're working on and we do have a pilot scheme underway at present. At the moment, though, it's only available for existing E.ON customers who live in certain areas and with conventional credit/prepayment metering set ups. We'll need to change the existing meter to a new Smart type. This is free. There are more details, including a form to register an interest, on our website. Once registered, we'll be in touch to let customers know if they're eligible and, if they are, when we can change their meter.

You're right about credit checks. Where we've permission, we credit check all prospective new customers as well as existing customers who want to switch from a prepayment to a credit meter.

    Hope this explains sacsquacco.
