Credit Card ATM -£300 a day limit? - But why did this happen?

The system used in the ATM network is fairly complex as you might imagine!
Pretty much every card issuer has a different set of rules in regards to pretty much every aspect of the way they work.
If I were to guess I would think one of two things has happened:
1) MBMA's rules in regards to cash withdrawals is per 24 hours, rather than per day.
2) MBNA's cut-off for that day isn't a midnight - it's somewhere between 1am and 3am which oddly isn't unusual.
It's possible you've triggered some fraud prevention marker, but if you had they would have contacted you.0 -
It's almost certainly an anti-fraud trigger.
As others have said, they will usually call or text you.
I tried to withdraw with my MBNA Amex, when abroad, and it declined. Got automated calls on my voicemail and arrived home to a contact us letter. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Why not call them, they can answer the question, if there is a fraud block they can release it, and they may well be able to offer you a money transfer at a much better rate, potentially free (transaction fee, not interest but some do offer 0% on money transfers for a limited time).
It can't do any harm, and if it is a fraud block then it could prevent your account being locked down when you try again.0 -

Abroad blocks can be a pain, did it work out and get clear when you were there
Perhaps the 24 hour period hasn't set it yet?0 -
I suspect the changeover from one day to the next might be actually at 2 or 3 am rather than exactly midnight.
Definitely midnight (UK time) with HSBC on the daily limit reset, although I do mine on a debit card.
I've done many a 3.30am (local time) cashpoint run when I've been home if making a big-ish purchase, as cards aren't that widely accepted.💙💛 💔0 -
You might have been better ringing MBNA to see if they have any cheap offers where they'd have transferred money to your bank account.
I think anti-fraud trigger is most likely in play here.0 -

I've found the same with Santander Zero when getting cash overseas. In Taipei it was quite handy, if I got to my local ATM before 8am, I could make a couple of withdrawals, just one before 8am and one just after (there being an 8 hour time difference during winter).
Can't remember if it's midnight BST during the summer.0 -
I've not withdrawn cash on my CC but on my bank account it has its "changeover" into the following day somewhere between 2 and 3am - its not dead on midnight0
