    Not an engineer - by any definition - but a semi-trained muppet. Could have been collecting trollies at Asda a week ago. Lack of knowledge of difference twix !!!! & elbow being their speciality (speaking as an electrician).

    I'm kicking myself for not checking and spotting such a schoolboy error. A quick Google search shows that electricity meter terminals are a standard layout: four screws in a row where the inputs are the pair on the left and the outputs are the pair on the right. In my case it was obvious that the input cables were going to the right-hand pair instead of the left-hand pair. Doh!

    I guess I trusted Western Power to know how to do their job. Now let's see how Scottish Power goes about figuring out my next electricity bill.
