Vodafone Broadband

I ordered VF broadband but cancelled it within a few hours having found a better deal at TalkTalk. I received an email from VF confirming the cancellation. A couple of weeks later I found my internet not working and after calling both BT (current provider) and TalkTalk we worked out that Vodafone had taken over the line. Vodafone confirmed this when I called them and said they don't know why the cancellation didn't take effect. I had to place a fresh order with TalkTalk (losing the cashback amount via topcashback) which also meant I lost my phone number. All in all I was 3 weeks without a phone line and broadband.
I wrote to VF outlining the situation and asked for compensation for the 3 weeks with no phone line and losing my existing telephone number. They replied with a brief apology but due to business policy they couldn't offer any compensation. Would anyone take it further or is there not much point?

Can you quantify your loss - actual monetary loss, rather than just hassle and inconvenience? If not, then you have nothing to claim. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
