Amazon CD purchase - subsequent mp3 download

I've had an issue with cancelling a CD that hadn't been dispatched from Amazon, as you get the mp3 format of the album also. I was told I could cancel without incurring a charge, yet when I cancelled I was charged! The CD wasn't dispatched or paid for yet.

Does anyone know how the distance selling regulations works when if you decided to return the CD, and are charged the fee for the accompanying download?

Have you downloaded the mp3 version ?
  • No, but it arrived in my Amazon music library as this is presumably automatic.

Don't know the answer so following but always wondered what happened to the download if you returned the CD still sealed for a refund

The album will show on your cloud, but then you make the choice whether to download it. Is this what you have done?

Yes, it showed on the cloud, but I didn't download the album.

That's what I was wondering too, you can return the CD under the distance selling regulations and are entitled to do so. But I wondered if you would then be charged with the downloads despite exercising a legal right?

If you cancel or return the CD, you are charged the MP3 price of the album.

OP, the above link makes specific reference to downloading the music, not just having it added to your library (which is automatic). So if you haven't actually downloaded the music from your Amazon music library, you should get a refund.

This happened to me but I contacted Amazon and they refunded.

The only difference is I noticed after I ordered CD it was coming to my home address and as it was a gift I wanted it to go to another address. To this I had to cancel and rebuy.

I found Amazon very helpful as I'm sure it's a common problem.

Looks like it's a bit of a safeguard for Amazon, they will know from experience that people don't need both so have concocted a download version so you get charged whether you keep the CD or not.

It warns you when you cancel that you will be charged for the mp3 version.
