Photoshop Cs4, 5 & 6

I don't like the idea of paying Adobe annually for Photoshop Cs6. I want to pay once and keep the software! After several years of using PSE (up to 12now) I am ready to move on to Photoshop proper. Can I find anywhere to (legally) buy any version below Cs6? No, I cannot. There is the oft vaunted Cs2 download that is free and comes with a licence key or isn't free and is only supposed to be for those who purchased it some years ago and need to download it again for any reason.

I have searched Adobe (I have a log-in) but it seems to offer the ability to buy older software but then I cannot find links to it. They do not offer an e-mail contact us, only chat, once you have jumped through several hundred hoops and you have to select from options whereas I want to just ask a specific question - where can I buy your older software????

By no means an expert but did a quick search and found this:
    http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html

It seems to be an extended trial version, I assume with the option to purchase after the trial period?

I think you need to call Adobe to purchase an older version of PS - they will likely only sell Photoshop CS6 (which is the last version that was available with a perpetual licence for a one-off payment) however expect it to be full price for what is now fairly old software.

Been using PS for yonks, upgrading regularly, but eventually went with the subscription model last year - the Photography plan (Photoshop CC + Lightroom CC) is now actually good value at around £100/year considering that just a Photoshop upgrade was IIRC about £150 (business expense for me, but still...)

Prodesigntools is a genuine site, and the links to the installers point to the genuine Adobe installers on Adobe's server.

I just don't know if it's possible to buy a license when the trial period is up - I suspect you'll get taken to the regular CC subscription page.

You may have to find a genuine reseller who has some old physical stock. Or possibly someone who didn't qualify for upgrade discounts so is able to sell on their old license in full.

If you contact adobe you can still buy photoshop standalone, very expensive, I personally now use lr 6 standalone and pse14 with Nik and am more than happy with it. I do not want to sign up for cc as do not have reliable internet access now.

You do realise that if you pay for a 1 year subscription upfront, once you've downloaded PS & LR CC, the software only needs to briefly talk to the mothership once every 3 month to check status? If you go for the monthly subscription then it needs to have a chat once a month obviously. So you'd only need to be somewhere with decent internet once to download CC and then as long as you have some connection every so often then it'll be fine.

Amazon had the 1 year photography plan on offer a few months back, it was £80 instead of the normal £100 so worth keeping an eye out for offers maybe?

Do you use Photoshop to make money even as a hobby? If you do, I think it's best to get CC as it's a working tool that will pay for itself. You'll also benefit from the newest and improved tools.

You can PS and LR at 20% discount with some quick Googling. That takes it to approx. £7 per month. I think that's a good price to keep up to date with the industry standard software. If you need any more persuading think about how much you might spend on coffees, beers, treats etc per month. That sort of comparison usually helps me put things into perspective!

Only use Photoshop as a hobby not to make money. I have looked around at discounts. I am coming to the conclusion that it may be better to go down the annual payment route having looked at the most recent price for CS6 that I could find. It would take seven years to pay back - assuming Adobe keep their annual cost the same!!

Dragging this thread back up as Amazon currently have the 1 year CC Photography plan on offer at £79.99 instead of the normal £100. Don't know how long the offer is for, probably just a few days.
