Holiday price rise in one week

Whilst in lanzarote for new year we decided we would probably go back for this coming new year. I had spoken to a friend who wanted to come with us about it but we agreed to meet yesterday to clarify a few things.
whilst we were there I priced it up and it was going to cost £1063 pp all inc which we were happy with.
Come yesterday after our meeting I then went to book it (on a different computer) and it had gone up to £1270 pp all inc. what the hell happened in a week that put the price up by that much?
Have I missed something with regard to new year price increases 😏
Thanks

Demand is probably what happened. They may have sold some of those packages during that week.
Now that many people are going to avoid places like Egypt, Turkey or Tunisia, other destinations will be more popular. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Holiday prices are not static, they change on an almost daily basis.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Peak dates in high season demand is what's happened.0

The first week in January is usually the busiest week of the year for holiday bookings and all the agencies and operators claim the start of 2016 has been fantastic for bookings, so short of another terrorist attack(heaven forbid) most holidays are going to go up the longer you leave it0

I'm in the same boat. We are looking to book playa blanca, lanzarote, for new year but wanted to delay booking it for a couple of weeks as I've just booked our summer holiday. Last week the price was coming in at £780pp, this week its £1308pp.that's one hell of a jump0

Basically 'supply and demand'. I once had a Premium Economy flight go up by £700 per seat whilst booking it on the internet, and when I queried it, there on the page was 'these prices are not confirmed until bought and paid for'!!! Needless to say I did NOT complete the booking!0
