Travelling with 2 year old nut allergic son

We are going to the Algarve with my 2 year old DS who has a nut allergy. This is the first time we've travelled abroad with him and wondered if anyone has some advice. He has had 2 immediate but not severe reactions to nuts so far and can usually give him most foods without being too stringent.

I have printed off some translation cards with emergency phrases and translatated words of different nuts. Can I take his Epipen and Piriton syrup on the aircraft? I have asked the Doctor for a letter of authority. We will take our own food on the aircraft. Any travel insurance issues I should be aware of?

Is there anything else I should be aware of or can anyone offer any general advice?

My son (now in his 20's) also has a nut allergy. Our doctor also provided a letter which was accepted by airport authorities although this was several years ago before the current "problems".
Since he now travels on his own he has always managed to talk his way into taking his epipen on the plane with him. Probably best to be open about it and explain what it is before being questionned. Also worth checking with company you're flying with. If piriton bottle is less than 100ml then you'll not have a problem
