It's both really, obviously it protects them from predators, but it's a breach of privacy much more, but i guess it's worth it for the safety. Don't expect to be your kids favourite person if they find out though. The other thing i'd add is take the age of your kid into consideration, if you're reading your 14 year old sons conversations ask yourself if you're trying to protect him or just snooping.Bought, not Brought0

not getting into your privacy argument...but it is a parents responsibility to look after their children even if means pushing to the limits of their rights!!
i read an item in the mail i think just last week about a girl of 15 who went off with someone she met on line.came home and then disappeared and no contact since...
i know from that story her parents wish they'd monitored her mail
you can never be to careful in the security of your children whether they are 6 days or 20 yrs
