Used car again...Sorry

I purchased a used cars on the 24th Decemebr 2015 and even though i had taken it for a test drive and all seemed fine, i Stopped a mile away from the dealers to get something to eat, but the car wouldn't start again. I called them straight away, and they were able to get me jump started. So straight back to them, and we stopped and started the car a few times with no further issues. So although i was now wondering if i was doing the right thing, i took the car home (70 miles away). a few hours later, i went out and the Engine Management Light came on, but by this point, the dealer was closed, and was closed for the whole of the next week. Anyway, i spoke to him and have agreed to get it repaired (hes going to clean teh DPF). I was going to travel up to him early this week, but tonight when driving the battery light came on, and when i got home, the car wouldn't start again.
I have now lost all confidence in this car, and hoping someone could advise me on rejecting this car. I know i had agreed a repair, but that was for the DPF, can i now reject this car, as the battery light coming on when driving is usually an altinator problem and the last thing i want is a car thats going to be 1 problem after another. Add described as a good driver.
Also, just a question and i know this is my own stupidity, the ad said 3 months waranty, but on the reciept he wrote 1 month, and then i signed it without realising what it said on the ad have i any comback on this?
Cheers
Phil

So he will clean the DPF and fit a new battery and/or alternator and you dont want it anymore? 2 jobs that may well need doing on the next car you buy but with your own money.
1 month warranty, or 3 months, useless bit of paper.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
this may sound crazy but i used to put supermarket petrol in my renault, this used to cause the engine management light to come on.
battery light coming on normally means alternator is not charging the battery, does the battery light stay on with the ignition off?0 -

My point was that i only have the car 2 1/2 weeks, and already 2 problems have occured, how long til the next thing comes up?NotRichAtAll wrote: »this may sound crazy but i used to put supermarket petrol in my renault, this used to cause the engine management light to come on.

I was just told about supermarket fuel the other day, but who knows what the previous owner was putting it. As for the battery light, i'm not sure, i haven't been near the car since this happened, but i did a google search last night and you're right, its usually an alternator problem. I rang them today and they offered to fix it when i was getting the dpf cleaned, by getting the alternator refurbished. i told him i wasn't happy that 2 faults have happened so quickly and that i now wanted to reject the car, and after a bit of a discussion he agreed. So returning it Wednesday. Typical, i had filled it up the day before with BP Ulimate, so probably money lost for most of a tank of fuel0 -
Time for a little wager? Who wants to put money on the car they are handing back will run for a very long time and the next car they will choose will expire first?
To me those are 2 very minor issues, quickly and fairly cheaply sorted.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I would reject it. If they havent bothered to test the battery its probably not been checked for other issues either0

Under the CRA 2015 section 22 they have 30 days in which they can reject a faulty product for a full refund.

All returned today for a full refund. that was exactly my thought jb66. How long till the next thing happens.
So be it if it outlasts my next one. Buying from a manufacturer dealer themselves, so I know it should have at least been checked over0
