Soft & hard search on same day

Hi,

I've applied on 07/11/2015 for credit card at Capital One and was sadly refused. However after checking my report(from Experian), I've found the credit checks on two different days as follows,
07/11/2015 (Hard search)
17/11/2015(Unrecorded enquiry)
17/11/2015(Hard search)

Now, I am trying to undertsand, if the credit checks would be done on two different dates,
that too a hard & soft search on the same date. Any worth in disputing it with CRA??

Would be obliged if someone could let me know.

Regards,
RP.

What do you hope to gain by contacting the CRA? You applied for a card, the company checked your credit record and based on their own scoring system (remember the scoring system from the likes of Experian is worthless) rejected you. Having a search on your file is largely meaningless, if you had 5 from different card providers it would be but this is nothing. Worst case apply for one other then wait 6 months before applying again

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Hi Nasqueron, many thanks for your reply. Perhaps I missed explaining my point, but here it is...I am worried two credit checks within span of 10 days, it seems like I've applied for credit again within 10 days. Also, soft & hard search on the same day(17/11/2015) appears to me like an error and this I wish to dispute with the CRA.

    Regards,
    RP.
  • I know that if you do a pre qualification assessment, then a full application you would get a soft and then a hard search - but if you have two hard searches on different dates and only applied once then it cant hurt to query it because I can see why you wouldn't want two hard searches within days of each other

The second hard search is probably an error. It's certainly not unusual for a hard search to be followed up by an unrecorded enquiry (soft search). Indeed any credit applications which are referred for any reason will be manually assessed following a look into your credit file.
