We've been considering a wood burning stove in the living room but seen a few pictures of bio ethanol fireplaces, but know nothing about them. Are they becoming more common? Do they give off much heat? And whats the installation requirements?
Any pointers or advice greatly appreciated

Too many accidents for my liking.0

I might be wrong but I thought these fire places were more for effect and flame appearance than a heat source.0

They look lovely & produce no usable heat at allI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Cost of fuel is outrageous , cause condensation and smell of chemicals.
Barge pole comes to mind.0 -
If you want heat without the real logs, then some of the latest gas-fired wood burning stoves are great.
I saw a Jotul stove in a showroom and I just couldn't believe it was gas fired, even after staring intently for 5 minutes. I'd really recommend having a look.
As others say, bio ethanol doesn't give off any noticeable heat. It's a gimmick and just hassle.0
