I was sat scanning in documents before aiming to shred master copies when I heard a noise in the corner of the room. Suspecting it must be a mouse of something similar I looked up to find smoke coming out of my Staples Shredder. I was shocked. I quickly turned of the electric and manage to avoid a fire. I checked the rollers there is nothing obviously stuck. About a hour a so I shredded my last documents and the paper shredder has been sat waiting since. The smoke has left a very strong smell of burning plastic. Very scary, as I have often left the scanner shredding and left the room. I have had the shredder for just over a year.

Contact the retailer. Even if it's out of warranty fire is a serious hazard which the retailer should investigate along with manufacturer
