Fussy cats!!!!

Options
My 2 cats are driving me mad, they won't eat anything I give them, for the last couple of months. They've been having bozita or butchers classic, i've tried almo nature, several carny ones, sainsburys and tesco varieties. I've also tried bought and home prepared raw cat foods. They'll eat tiny bits but then no more. They will eat Applause dry food no problem.
So any suggestions what I can do, or which is better, try them on the sugary brands like Felix or whiskers, or just give them dry food? The problem is at night they make so much noise because they want food, they wake the whole house up!

Whatever you do don't give them dry.

Have you tried raw? If you email natural instinct about 'buying' a trial pack they will send one for free.

I've tried raw, the trouble is it comes in such big packs,,and already frozen, but they only have such a small amount each day it goes off before they've finished it, but the little girl cat doesn't like it anyway.
I think someone is feeding the little girl cat, she's massive now, (although she did have a broken leg 2 years back and it's obviously still achy, so she doesn't get as much exercise).
If I don't feed them, or they don't like the food i've put down, the little boy cat Prince wonders around meowing and scratching at my dd's bedroom door, which wakes us all up, several times a night.
  • How old are your cats? I have had similar issues in the past, my 18 year old cat stopped eating her normal food. I was advised to try the 'senior' ranges brands provide. Surprisingly she loved it, not sure on the exact science but she would only from that point onward eat senior cat food.

I have two fussy cats but I give them expensive food rather than waste my money on stuff they don't like. Applaws dry food which is 80 meat protein, Thrive tuna, Thrive chicken breast, Smilla (this is not too expensive but one of them likes it) and the one they go crazy for is Cosma Thai tuna and crab. I only give them one tin a day of Cosma Thai split between the two of them as its so expensive but they wolf it down. All this comes from zooplus.

Cant help with the food but a sheet of kitchen foil blu-tacked to the bottom of the door will stop the scratching.

  • 2 of my cats are also fussy. I resolve this by buying a wide variety of different foods and feeding a different brand in the morning as the evening - so they never have the same thing two meals running. This works well for us. One might occasionally turn their nose up at a meal, but they generally will always partake of the next. This variety includes the cheaper (nastier) supermarket types as well as the better quality foods. If they repeatedly turn their nose up at one thing I'll keep it a few months and try again - they pretty much always eat it the second time.

On the wet/dry debate - I feed both. Wet first thing and last thing, dry (good quality) for tea and they also have a cheap dry food down all of the time so they never have an excuse for complaining. I know not all cats are suitable to free feed like this but happily mine are all a healthy weight. That said, the fact they have cheap dry food in a bowl doesn't stop them glaring at me when it's past time for one of the set meals!

The way I solved the door scratching problem was to stop closing doors :) Works every time!

mine are picky, however they like Purizon dry food which is good quailty so that is what I feed them.

I haven't yet found a wet food which they will eat consistently and as they are both the picture of health and very contented I don't lose any sleep over them having dry food only .

They do both hunt as well so they are supplementing that diet with fresh mice!

Mine is fussy - but, he likes what he likes! I have found he thinks Brekkies dry food is on a par with Dreamies! and the expensive dry stuff doesn't get eaten and I have tried them all. He loves Sheba mini pouches and Gourmet Perle Pouches. Sheba large pouches - jelly or gravy. he will also eat Applaws chicken and pumpkin but no other variety.
He did once surprise me by wolfing down this brand which was on offer in the local home braggins - but they haven't had it since and ive forgotten its name now.
I wouldn't get hung up on 'Branded' foods and how expensive they are - if the cat likes it and eats it and it doesn't upset them or cause them to put on weight - whats the problem?

Merit at an, the reason I want a good food is like I want good for for my kids, if you give them food full of sugar and things cats shouldn't eat, it's going to affect their health long term.
I'll try the tip with the foil tonight Money maker, I can't leave the doors open though, Sensible Sarah because the little girl cat likes to sleep in my dd's head and always her up!
I'll check out the other suggestions too, thanks. :-)
