Baggage insurance

My brother is going on a 10 day cycling trip to France. He has his medical insurance covered etc.
He has also taken out travel insurance. Travel insurance only covers up to £250 per item of baggage. His bike is worth more than this.
His concern is that his bicycle may get damaged on the plane.
His cycle will be well packaged. His bike will not leave his sight whilst on holiday in France.
Will his bike be covered for accidental damage or loss by the airline company if it is damaged/lost in their care?
