Which electric heating system?

Options
I have a 1 bed bungalow in Cinderford, owned by two rivers housing, who took out my solid fuel burner as it was condemned, and put in a hot water heating system a bit like gas but with electric, and I cant afford to put it on that much, my bill in nov and dec was £70 per month, I have no idea if I can get my housing to change the system to storage heaters as my neighbours have them and they have warm bungalows, all i want is a warm place to live in,
if I cant afford the heating system they put in, can I ask them to change it for me ?,
also no gas here so have to use electric heating so was looking to see if they could change to storage heaters on economy 7 or 10, any advice on how I can resolve my dilemma would be very much appreciated,
Thanks

I honestly cant believe that they would do that, it will cost you a fortune running costs if its what i think. (is it like a combi but electric and radiators) i really do feel so sorry for you if it is.

All you can do i beg them to take it out and go with storage heaters, which i think should of been installed.

if it was me and they did that i would have to move than use that system

  • to be honest i have looked into moving as it is the heating system you mentioned and if they refuse to change it then i will have to leave my secure tenancy to go to rent privately which i really dont want to do

Its crazy they have installed that its the most expensive form of heating.

I would use it for a day record the units the boiler is using and show them then x it by 7 tell them what its costing per week, pester them none stop to try and get them to remove it.

Im also not keen on private landlords you really are not in a very good place atm.

Has the council got no properties coming empty soon or maybe a exchange, but i would try and get them to remove it first.

I have storage heaters last year my winter quater bill was about £240 ish which is not bad im getting new storage heaters within 2 weeks bigger 1s than i have as im always cold, but at least i get a cheaper unit to heat them.

I do feel for you though good luck and fingers crossed they help you.

What about citizens advice can they help

HA's rarely ever make such a major change without consulting the householder. Wet electric the most expensive electric heating system in the UK to run. Why are neighbours in similar builds happy with theirs and you are not ?

Your HA will have a named individual responsible for your account, make a face to face formal appointment, take any bills and evidence, practice what questions you want to ask and take a witness / helper with you. Do so immediately, but remember that £840 a year is an average moderate all electric space and water heated dwelling cost these days. Will they change on when all your neighbours find NSCH economic and effective - I've no idea .. .. but your request seems reasonable particularly if you were not consulted on choice of NSCH or Wet Electric.
