Economy 7 Heater question

Options
Hi, first post, just a quick question about my storage heaters.

I have three storage heaters in my flat two 1.7kw and one 2.5kw which I don't use as the flat is so small. Anyhoo, my manual storage heaters have an automatic boost depending which setting you choose, at 6 the damper opens in the afternoon and at 3 it opens in the evening.

Now my storage heaters do a really good job keeping me warm, they're boiling hot to the touch at 10pm at night and while sometimes I hear the "click" of the automatic boost being operated, the damper doesn't open.

I always have mine at 3 for an evening boost. The click sound comes from the top of the heater near the controls, but I never see anything happen when i peer through the grill. Is there another smaller damper that is opened to let air into the core? Or do you think my heater has a fault? thanks.

Have you got the manual for it? Look up your storage heater model number on the manufacturer website. They may help explain how all the functions work.

If it is a standard two input control?

How often do you adjust the output?

What is your standard way of operating it?

Some storage heaters have a boost function which does not use stored heat but rather activates a separate heating element which would use the expensive day rate.

So more information on your storage heater, model number and manual is required.

Boost Make and model of storage heater ?

If the damper opens the room stat has decided the room heat needs topping up and does so, if the timed boost has switched on but the damper does not open with the bi-metal strip the room stat has decided the room is warm enough. Make and model of storage heater ?

The thermostat clicks. (when more heating is required, but the power is probably off).

The damper/flap doesn't click. It just slowly opens as required.
  • its a Sunhouse 1.7 manual storage heater. The output knob that you turn presses down on the damper and opens it if you increase it to 6, but at 3 mine is pretty much closed. I have only one electrical connection and it only switches on at the e7 hours. I suppose I shouldn't complain really, it does its job perfectly but i always assumed that the automatic boost and click i hear released some sort of spring loaded thing to pop it open? maybe there is something else that opens? curious!:)
