web hosting options

I've been looking around for a web host and seems like there are a lot around offering similar deals. I have a website I have designed myself and really just need the hosting (and domain name to purchase) with FTP facility. I don't need the fancy stuff like webshop or sql etc, as the website I've designed is a fairly straightforward html site.
I was looking at ehost.com which seems one of the cheapest at £2.95 month on the inital purchase. Has anyone experience of these?
Or are there better options?
I was wondering if there are absolutely free web hosts where I can upload it for a trial to see if a free host would be suitable. Any suggestions? (I realise with this there will be an odd looking url like https://www.companyname.mysite.com
Thanks.

You can buy your domain from anywhere and host it anywhere.
You may get a deal where they offer the domain for free though.
Will it only ever be one site? I use 50 webs and can host 10 with
unlimited sub domains.
I used one of the free 0000 ? named hosts and they were terrible, they had to inspect each update to ensure the site was legal, supposed to be under 24 hours but sometimes took days, awful when you have just uploaded a page and spotted a spelling error and need to upload it again.
I use Easily to buy my domain and 50webs to host it.. As with most things you need to shop around and see what suits you.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Thanks for the suggestions. Did a bit of comparison and went with Falcoda in the end, signed up and got the hosting and domain sorted within a couple of hours and my website live (I had designed it myself), less than £40 for two years. Excellent. Early days yet, but everything straightforward and professional and the site looks good and the server very quick.
