problem with Miele washing machine

We have a Miele novatronic W 360 washing machine.

It is 15 years old and still washes like a brand new machine.
I love it and until now never had a problem.

We have noticed recently that we have a little leak coming out of the door,
not a massive leak just a little dribble,
we think its the rubbery grey seal on the door and we think it may need replacing.

How easy or difficult would this be to replace it ourselves ?

Although feeling round it it seems to be in very good condition no holes or tears.
The dribble seems to be when the machine takes in water,
during washing or rinsing time there is no leak .

Could it be that something needs tightening ?

We would be grateful for any advice offered.
Calling in the miele man is not an option for us, no way we can afford it

Does water or room temperature have any effect?

If the rubber is old it may be brittle, this would be made worse in the cold.

On our model the seal is very easy to replace.

Make sure the door glass is clean where the seal sits. Sometimes a buildup of detergent on the glass can cause a bad seal.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Our miele did the same, I rang an engineer to come and look at it and he suggested rubbing Vaseline over the rubber (door seal).
He said over time the rubber becomes brittle and rubbing Vaseline over it softens the rubber up. It's worked a treat for us. This happened to me for he first time about 3 years ago, our machine is still going strong, I've probably done the Vaseline trick about 3 times in total since. Our miele is approx 13 years old and never been serviced!
The engineer did say that if it didn't cure it he would come and look but there's been no need.

  • Is the door being held closed as tightly as it should be?

It could be that there is some wear in the locking mechanism.

Unless the leak gets worse it might be easier to just live with it rather than spend money replacing the seal or getting the door locking mechanism looked at.

Put a small cloth on the floor under the door and use that to wipe the wet area when you unload the washing.

The door mechanism seems fine, but I am going to try
    the other suggestions above.

But like you say about putting a cloth in front of the machine
I have been putting a mop in front of the machine and squeezing
it out at the end of the wash. So will carry on doing this if nothing
    else works.

In time if its still happening I will get the money together and get Miele in
for repair no way I want to consider buying another machine, because this one is
too good to let go and it would take me an age to get the money together
o replace it with the same, heaven knows what the same washer would
cost these days to buy new.

Big thank you to all who have helped me with this

Sounds daft I know about the Vaseline but it definitely worked on ours :-)
I rubbed it all round the seal and into the crease where the water catches.
I did put quite a bit on (you can feel the rubber soften a bit as you work it in - no need to wipe it off)
I've not had to replace the seal at all.
Can't get much more money saving than that!

Replacing a door seal is not difficult, just fiddly. The link is for the part (I think) and shows how its done.
