New York airports

I have only flown from LHR to JFK when going to New York. I have always gone on my own before, next time I am going with a couple of other people so am willing to try a different airport. So is there a better choice, maybe quicker entry, nicer reception etc by choosing one of the other NY options? Flights from LHR look cheaper going to a different airport and being in a group, getting to and from a different airport won't bother me as much. Have not chosen a hotel yet.

If you are going to New York city your options would be JFK or Newark from the UK (La Guardia is predominately domestic flights)

I love Newark - has great surrounding hotels, with free shuttles to airport from where a train goes several times an hour into Manhattan. for around $50 for a couple return. Meaning you can stay in Newark for a quarter of the cost of a Manhattan hotel!


Also if you fly Virgin they have (or used to have) an 8am USA time flight to London which is great.
