Gesture controlled cars.

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

What about if you gave someone the "Put your seat belt on" gesture aka the Gareth Hunt.

BMW already have this in production and they have gesture control on the newly released 7 series

I have enough trouble talking to our Prius. Rarely use it as I end up swearing at the "stupid woman", as I affectionately know the voice inside, when she fails to do what I asked.
OH doesn't help either. When I do get an instruction recognised and stupid woman wants confirmation, which she asks for by saying "Press the talk button and answer yes or no", OH will answer "Yes or no", and stupid woman abandons the whole command...

If hand gestures were involved, at least we'd be able to laugh at other motorists trying to adjust the volume on the car audio system, before letting go of the steering wheel causes them to crash. :)

volume control is one of the functions on the new 7 er and you point your finger at the touch screen and a clockwise motion for up and anticlockwise for down

why you think letting go of the steering wheel will make you crash i have no idea, I have been driving for thirty five years and mostly in manual cars so have taken my hand off the wheel hundreds of thousands on times to change gear and it has never caused me to crash yet

Yes and if you do a gesture similar to shaking a can of beans, the car automatically drives off and parks itself in a disabled parking space :rotfl:

Will standing in the middle of the car park making the same gesture make all such equipped parked beemers gather round you? :D

For the love of gawd... Talk about pointless complexity. !!!!!! IS WRONG WITH TURNING A BLOODY KNOB? Or, if you MUST have a touchscreen, pressing buttons or dragging a slider or turning a knob displayed on it? It's not as if you've got surgical gloves on that you're trying to keep sterile...

Or, perhaps, better ergonomics would mean you could adjust the stereo volume without even removing a hand from the steering wheel?

My wife rolled her eyes at me when I programmed the sat nav to store our home address as (and when i select it by voice it reads this to me) "Home James, and don't spare the horses"...

I'd like to see controls for demister etc on the steering wheel. Pain in the *insert censored word here* to reach for it blindly...
