Free prepaid credit card? Other than talkhome catcard

Only just found this out but when i went to top up my prepaid 'Talkhome Cat Card' , it topped up via paypal with £25 fine, then i went to pay £25 for something online and it declined a couple of times. I then went to the talkhome website to log in to view my balance and i couldnt log in. The website was still there, all the same but i couldn't even send a password reminder to my email address it didnt recognise my usernam or cardnumber.
I had to dial the number on the website, and they told me talkhome cat card no loner exists! They have changed to credECard!
I managed to eventually log in, when i did that i saw that they now charge £2 a month so they had taken £2 from the £25 i topped up with.
I know £2 isn't a massive fee, but i did used to like the fact i could put money on my prepaid card using paypoint at any time of night when the banks are closed. Very handy..
Are there any other cards offering a similar service, for free? Ones that i can top up using paypoint without a monthly fee? I know they make their money using other high fee's for
Transfers and withdraws but i'm not looking to use that anyway...

i'm not sure.. i almost always use a Credit Card for purchases, often looking to generate cashback in the process.
you don't mean "prepaid credit card" by the way.. Prepaid cards are those that you prepay onto, and then use to spend. Credit cards are those that you spend on, borrowing ie. using Credit, and then pay off.0 -
Pockit
The only charge I recall is for ATMs.0 -

As for prepaid cards, why not get a basic bank account that comes with a debt card? Most of the big banks offer one.
Then you'd have the backing of a large, established, bank instead of a fly-by-night organisation.0 -

I do have a basic bank account
But the prepaid card comes in really handy if im on nightshift and need to put money in the bank and can't do it during the day, i can go to a 24 hour spar or texaco that accepts paypoint and then put it in that way
jist handy for me thats all. Also on a sunday, or after 5pm if theres no way of getting money onto my debit card. 0 -
Bradztheman! Thanks for the news about the demise of the Cat Card - I had no idea, no notification and as you say their website looks the same but doesn't let you log in or tell you why. It would have been an expensive call from overseas for me, if you hadn't given the credEcard clue..!
Too bad, it was a gem in many ways, including the free PayPoint loads and the only prepaid card not to incur credit card surcharges for online purchases, and with its own sort code and account number. As you say, the credEcard has a £2 monthly fee and £0.50 plus 2.50% per PayPoint load. I am unloading mine on to Revolut, which is fee-free but doesn't have the cash deposit facility that you need.
The next best thing for you is probably Pockit, 99p for the card and also per PayPoint load. But no outward transfers (apart from card payment) and no sort code/acc.no. for inward.Evolution, not revolution0 -
The cheapest I know to credit from a Paypoint is a credit union account and the Credit Union prepaid card.
The way to do it is this:
** Open a credit union account.
** Get a Credit Union Prepaid VISA for £10.
** You should then be able to deposit funds into your credit union savings account at a Paypoint for free.
** Load the prepaid card by withdrawal from your credit union savings account which costs 50p
** You can also load your prepaid card at the credit union for 50p.
Fees for the prepaid card are the same across all credit unions but some credit unions charge a membership fee and/or a dormancy fee while others don't. Not all credit unions offer the prepaid card but most do.
The next cheapest is Pockit which charge 99p for just about everything except the international ATM fee which is £2.25p.0
