in Credit cards
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a better alternative to my current Amazon (HBOS managed) credit card. I always pay it off in full, and I am using it really for building up £15 reward vouchers to spend on nice things.. I was just wondering if there is another card out there which has better rewards for the money spent?
Thanks..

Yes there is. The amazon card is a poor rewards credit card once you get past the initial £15 voucher they give you. To earn the points it works as follows: 1 point per £1 at amazon, 0.5 points per £1 elsewhere. Then you have to earn 1500 points before you get the next £15.
Better ones out there in my opinion are
MBNA platinum reward card - earn 1 point for every £1 spent. You can get 2000 bonus points if you use the card within 90 days of receiving it. You can then use the vouchers at a variety of merchants.
Tesco reward credit card-5 points for every £4 spent at Tescos. 1 point for every pound spent elsewhere. These are emailed every quarter regardless of how much you have spent (hence you don't need to save up to 1500 points before they are sent to you)
M&S card - 1 point for every pound spent at Marks. 0.5 point when spending elsewhere. But unlike the amazon card vouchers are sent quarterly and there is also a lot of promotion of triple times points etc
Of course if you don't really shop at Tesco or M&S then they are not that great. Although they are still better than the amazon card.
Other reward cards are Goldfish, Asda, Amex Nectar. Then you also have the Airmiles cards as well.
Hope that helps0 -
Thanks very much swayze, an excellent post. I decided to go with the MBNA Platinum reward card and applied a few minutes ago, I had to telephone but they have accepted my application.
I will use the Amazon card for another month or so as I am only 50-odd points off another £15 voucher, and then switch over to useing the MBNA Platinum reward card..
Fantastic forum this, brilliant advice! :money:0
