  • I don't think Paypal buyer protection applies on downloads.

    Ahh thought not, from https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/paypal-safety-and-security

    Items Not Covered
Items that don't match your description, intangible items like services or digital goods, items that violate our policies or eBay's policies, and items you sell or deliver in person. None of these items are covered.

No it's not. Adobe turned off the activation server and provided activation free installers for existing CS2 users so they wouldn't lose the ability to reinstall.

Using CS2 if you didn't actually buy it is not much different to what the OP is planning to do, which is to 'buy' an illegally generated key from somebody with a keygen application.

As the OP, I take great exception to your statement that I am planning to buy illegal software, and I draw your attention to the final paragraph of my original post, which is as follows :

Obviously I'm making the assumption that the seller is authorised to offer legitimate downloads as a reseller of Adobe products for which he appears to offer other versions and products, such as lightroom, etc.

Furthermore, it must be blatantly clear from the text of my follow-up posts, that my reason for them is to get advice so that I don't end up buying illegal software!

Thanks for that. I can't imagine, if downloaded from the Adobe site that it could possibly be pirated. However, I can envisage a fake link being supplied which purports to be Adobe itself.

I just can't understand how an individual can legitimately sell downloads from Adobe at a low price where Adobe themselves appear to not sell this earlier version of the software any more.

There just seems to be something not quite right here. There is another seller, selling a download for almost the same price (bar a few pence) so maybe this is some sort of illegal activity?

That's the point, the software is genuine.

It is the full version of Elements but it's only a 30 day trial. To continue using it after the 30 day trial has expired you need to enter a valid product key. It's the product key that you are buying via eBay, not the software.

There are thousands of working but illegal keys out there for Adobe. You can download a keygen program that churns them out endlessly and while they work they are illegal. Just type Adobe keygen into Google.

He could be a legit re-seller but you are taking a chance that he's not.

Everone likes to save money and it's surprisingly easy to turn a blind eye to a suspect bargain.

I've got Version 13 and I seem to remember paying £57 for it.

You have to read these ads very carefully. It does say it's a genuine key but it DOESN'T say it's not been used before:

Full version Product key - included official download at Adobe - Authentic Product key.
You will receive an original license key for the full version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 maintained.

I would avoid this with a double-length bargepole.

Yep, way too many illegal Adobe keys etc around on eBay. I bought a shrink wrapped brand new boxed copy of flash a couple of years ago, with all the right pamphlets etc inside, but a scratch on the disc. Called Adobe to see if there was a download link, which there was, so no drama. Except the key in the box wouldn't work, because the disk in the box contained a hacked copy of the programme which was specifically designed to accept the fake key. Lots of work gone into cheating me of my cash (which I did get refunded pronto when I accused the seller of selling fakes. He kept selling them though, so I tipped off Adobe).

In short, don't waste your time

No illegal key required. Adobe did provide a generic key when they made the old versions available for download.

Really? They will just provide you with a generated serial from a keygen, you will have no support and no come back. If it looks too good to be true then it usually is.
I have been using CS2 for ages and it is FREE!
    Just google CS2 for free.

No it's not. The download was made available to those with a valid license so the license server could be taken offline. If you don't have a valid license then you are using it illegally.

might as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb then and use elements 14 illegally.

Elements is now on Version 14 and Lightroom which he is also selling is now on Version 6. He's selling PSE12 and LR4.

There's no real way of telling how he's obtained the serials. He definitely should be registered as a business though.

The old adage applies: If it's too good to be true, it usually is!
  • I'm not saying it's too good to be true. As I said originally, I'm not bothered about the latest version and thought that perhaps resellers are able to offer older versions at a lower price.

I'm not expecting the current version for £20 quid but I can imagine a software maker selling older versions online so that they can gain from the 2nd hand market. (Meaning, they can make some extra money where otherwise buyers would buy a 2nd hand disc from Ebay, etc).

I've now bought the software and it all seems to work fine!
