Barclays bank account under review?!

Options
Ok so someone made a payment a while back for an item and is now complaining to their bank they have recieved the item. Barclays has put my acc under review and said it can take up to a month while they investigate. They said in order to withdraw funds, i'll need to provide pay slips?! I told them i work from home (ebay), and they said the only acceptable form will be payslips?! [so what about the increasing number of people who work for themselves online?!!!!!].

Can i just close my account with stupid barlcays and they pass over my funds so i can transfer it to another of my accs?

You can but the problem is if this is not a business account then you have broke the terms and conditions as you can't use a personal account for business this is standard across all banks.

    Good luck

Not received maybe? For some item that you sold and was paid by a bank transfer? Even in this case, it's neither Baclays' nor other bank's business and cannot be a valid reason for blocking account.
Usually this happens if 'someone' complains that the account was hacked and the payment was [STRIKE]maid[/STRIKE] made not by him.

Yeah, our short-sighted lawmakers allowed them to do whatever they want and forgot to impose any restrictions.

Complain, but think where to get money to survive why they relax and drag their feet.
That said, if it's your business, it's worth having a separate business account for this instead of using a personal one.

I don't think you can do this while they 'investigate'relaxing-outside-smiley-emoticon.gif.

Sounds like perhaps another case of someone using their personal account for business, and thereby break the Terms and Conditions they agreed to.

Well, if so, can you quote the T&C allowing the bank to block the account for a month in such cases?
Terms and conditions for Personal customers 1.23 MB
Firstly, I don't see anything prohibiting using it for business.
Secondly, the only remotely relevant part I see is:
When we can close an account
We can close an account (and stop providing
services and end this agreement) by giving you
at least two months’ notice in writing. Any benefit
or services linked to your account will stop at the
    same time.
We may end this agreement immediately (and
stop providing services and close your account)
if we reasonably believe you have seriously or
persistently broken any terms of the agreement or
we have reasonable grounds for thinking that you
have done any of the following things, which you
    must not do:
    • you put us in a position where we might break
a law, regulation, code or other duty that applies
to us if we maintain your account
    • you give us any false information at any time
    • you commit (or attempt) fraud against us
    or someone else
    • you use (or allow someone else to use) your
account illegally or for criminal activity (including
receiving proceeds of crime into your account)
    • you inappropriately let someone else use
    your account
    • you behave in a threatening or abusive manner to our staff.
However, even here I don't see anything about blocking/suspending/reviewing/... , and using an account for business isn't fraud/crime/breaking law etc.

What will happen to the money in my account if they decide to close it? Thanks

Nothing. If you bother to read the thread I quoted, I said there that a court order (or your consent) is needed for confiscating any money. Otherwise you get cash or a cheque or can transfer it.
