Car Port

Hi there,
We are considering building a car port on the side of our home in order to keep some of our business stock out of the weather and to enable us to find another way for increasing storage for our items/small packing area. Please can you advise if we would be able to claim back the cost of the timber, nails, and corrugated sheets etc as we think this may be needed to be entered on our future tax return. Thank you

I had a similar disvussion with my accountant about a similar project. The HMRC say that the works must be 'wholly and exclusive for business purposes'. As you could use it for storage of personal possessions, car, bikes etc, your proposal would fall outside of the HMRC definition.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
