Firefox 1.0.4 not working!

I have just upgraded to Firefox 1.0.4 from the previous version. It does not connect at all to the internet and all I get is a page dispay error message.
I uninstalled the previous version of Firefox before installing 1.0.4. I have checked that my firewall is not the source of the problem. I have made sure that it allows Firefox to access the internet. I also ran CCleaners fix issues function before installation to remove any left over files.
Any ideas gratefully received - thanks!
