What can I do with my old cooking fat?
reuse.relove
I was wondering if anyone had any thrifty ideas with what to do with the fat that is left over after cooking? Things like lamb burgers leave loads of fat after! I've taken to pouring the fat into a pot while its still warm and once it gets so high (or after a couple weeks) I scoop that fat out and put it in the food recycling bin and then wash out the pot. I still don't have a use for old oil and I never use enough for it to be worth filtering for reuse, but obviously I can't pour it down the drain because its so damaging. Any advice Savers? Don't think I can keep up my pot washing :rotfl:

Do you have disposable cartons you actually buy food in. Keep putting it in one of them and then when its fullish, just wrap in something, newspaper or cling film and throw the whole lot away.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I second making fat cakes for the birds, especially at this time of year and if its a mix of oils. (Nothing too salty). Add some seeds.
No waste, no packaging going to landfill etc - just happier birds (or those *lasted grey squirrels we have everywhere).0 -

as long as it's only animal fats, please don't use any vegetable oils or fats as they can't get it off their feathers0 -
If it's animal fat, I use it to make fat balls for the birds. If I need to dispose of used vegetable/sunflower oil which doesn't solidify when cold, I dispose of it by mixing it with the cheapest own-brand flour I can find and then throwing the thick paste away.0
