Why packaging makes me violent !

I am sure other people have been injured trying to get into that hard rigid packaging used for non-food products . I have been injured by knife. scissors or the plastic itself (which is very sharp once cut) but last week was the limit . I purchased a headset from Asda and after hacking through the outer packaging -there was a secondary pre-formed obstacle round the headset. In hacking at this I damaged the wire which connected the headset to computer. I know it was my fault but can someone tell me how to deal with this type of packaging in future - I have just thrown £20 down the drain and I don't want to do it again. !!

How about instead of hacking you carefully use a pair sharp scissors to open it up.

I must say I've never had problems. With outer packaging cutting with something like nail scissors that won't go deep is what I've often used. But I tend to cut along rather than down into packaging.

I can understand with what the OP has said. I brought a razor last week, the one that comes with the blades and the razor arm itself. I was worn out afterwards, couldn't find my scissors and once I looked at the way it was packaged, decided against a sharp knife.

I agree totally - this plastic that is always crimped so close to the item is ridiculous, you need to destroy the packaging to get in then it says "If returned please ensure the packaging is undamaged".

I've given up buying vacuum packed fish because OH kept using my hair cutting scissors to open them - so I'd end up with hairy bits in my lunch and greasy, fishy bits in the kids' hair -Mmm.

Not all of us have the same dexterity and strength in our fingers. As I age/become athriitic what used to be a simple twisting/lifting/pullingor even peeling -off effort has become a greater effort!

I refuse to let it get the better of me.... but both the packaging and myself are in peices some considerable time later.
  • Thanks all for your comments - I am not ham fisted but I will admit to impatient - especially good to hear from other sufferers- loved the scissor story. On a serious point do you think it would be Ok to ask the retailer to open the package for me if I forsee difficulties - has anyone ever done this ?
