Barclaycard Initial Acceptance

Hello all,

Am new to the site and was hoping for some advice please.

Approx 10 years ago, I had a blowout with overdrafts, catalogs and credit cards. I have a CCJ (given 14 months ago) that I am still paying off monthly and religiously by DD!

I haven't had credit for a long time and as I'm older (and wiser!) I thought now was the time to get back into finance and build up a credit rating.

I applied for a Barclaycard Initial (I bank with Barclays) and they said online that they needed more time to consider my application, I wasn't surprised and was expecting a decline. However, today I received an email that said Welcome to Barclaycard and in it it said that I had been accepted and had a limit of £400!
I though this was brilliant! I started to Google about how long a card takes to get delivered and saw lots of posts where people have been approved and then also receive a letter to say they are declined. Admittedly these were from a couple of years ago but now I'm worrying!

Am I worrying that they will now decline me over nothing? I feel really proud that I have been accepted and will ONLY use the card for fuel and food and pay off in full so the interest didn't bother me.

Sorry for the ramble and thanks in advance :j

My card arrived in around 5 days, My decision was referred I had to answer a few questions over the phone and had the same email as you a few hours later. I've had no issues they said yes and they stuck to it.
  • Thank you for your reply A4445!

I also had an email from them a few days later saying they would review the credit limit after 6momths. Also as long as I pay on time and don't go over my credit limit they would reduce the APR within 12months. Plus there is a cash back offer as well £20 after 3rd on time payment :-)

To be honest we haven't seen any similar situations like the one you mentioned for, as you say, a couple of years or so..

I'm in a very similar situation. Barclaycard were in my IVA around ten years ago. I reapplied when all my files cleaned after the end of the IVA five years ago - was referred then declined citing the IVA.

However, I did apply for the Hilton Visa last Wednesday and it was a straight approval with £9k limit. Since then I have been logging on to their site everyday to check that the account still exists.

    I'll keep you posted.
