Well some top tips to save on fuel. If you dont have a combie boiler but have a old back boiler turn the thermostat to 60 and leave it on all day not timer thsi will save you a small fortune as your not using gas for 2 hours a day trying to warm cold water up you are just warming up a 1 or 2 degree drop every few hours.
If you have a boiler get a insulation jacket,
Change your light bulbs for energy savers 8 / 11 / 20 wat depending on the size of the room.
Get your appliances in order, there is some things you cant turn off eg vcr`s / alarm clocks but soem organization goes well, use 4 socket expensions with individual switches and make a habit of marking plugs and turning off what isnt in use, anothewr option if you have double sockets is use one for perminant on and one for "can be turned off".
A tube or 2 of silicone makes excellent draft proofing, use it round window frames / door frames / plumbing Eg kitchen waste pipe, any place where the somethign internal of the house goes external should be sealed to stop heat escaping.
Close doors when you leave rooms this will keep them warmer or fit door closers to save you the hassle. If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

We insulated the loft ourselves. It isn't a nice job as the fibres get everywhere and depending on your loft space there can be difficult corners to get in to.
H did ours about 3 years ago and it did help although I can't quantify the savings it made. The only thing I would say is beware of coming through the ceiling:eek: H was very careful but still managed to nudge a board which in turn made a small hole in the ceiling in one of the bedrooms!MFIT No. 810
