£199 for loft iunsultation??

Hi

Been quoted £199 for 10 inch of loft insultation. Apparantlky we have less than 1 inch today

I spend a fortune on fuel - £138 a month including a bit of back-log, although there are 7 of us in 4 bed semi. I am desperate to save on fuel, and am changing suppliers and turning off lights, heating etc etc

Will this be worth doing?

    Hi,

the easy answer is yes; in the long term it will be worth doing. If it's your own house you may be able to get help paying for it from your local authority, or if not your landlord should pay for it. Also if you're on benefits I think there is help with loft insulation.

    Have a look at this

There is loads if independent advice and info on insulation.

    Good Luck

If you are on certain benefits, Warm Front will fit all sorts of insulation, draught proofing etc for free.

We have just had all our external doors draught proofed (they checked and we already have adequate insulation) and they are great. A few days after the work was done, we got 6 energy saving light bulbs through the post from them too.

  • not on benefits, just totally skint and about to enter a DMP, but if it saves £30 a month, I'll scramble the money together

Check with your local council to see if they are doing any reduced-price offers. I know that Blackpool do, according to where in the town you live.

    Worth a phone call!

Also price up cavity wall insulation. That's dirt cheap too and also available with grants for some.

When was the last time you had the heating on?

Ours hasn't been on for months...........

Can I just ask if this quote is for someone to put the insulation down or just for the insulation?

If this is for someone to lay it as well could you not do it yourself and it would be cheaper still.

It comes in huge great rolls the width of your joists. Get the Builders merchant to deliver it along with masks and gloves. Wear long sleeve shirts and trousers. Put the roll up through the loft hole and unwrap. Roll the insulation out and hey presto!

Just googled how to do it. If you don't feel upto doing it then read the info and you can check they have done it correctly.
