Advice - Credit File

Afternoon All,
I'll start from the beginning so you get the idea of what I'm trying to find out !
When i was younger credit cards and loans so easy to get hold of and not being great with money or commitment i got lumbered with a lot of my own and my ex debt as all taken out in my name. So when we split up things were tough and the my only option was to try the DMP route as no family around that could help out.
So for the Past 7 and a half years I've been paying as agreed and although i have a few more years left to pay the remaining costs off i thought my credit file may have gotten better over the years (especially as i was under the impression that the bad credit would drop off after 6 years) here is were i have a few problems and need some advice.
1. i had 5 creditors that i had to sort the DMP with no on checking my Experian credit file all of these have dropped off apart from 1. could anyone explain if this is correct or should this one come off around the same time as the others ?
2. on looking in more detail at the now defaulted account it appears that a payment from the DMP company has not been paid on time (i can see a double payment the month after) which has then caused this particular account to have missed payments on etc and then defaulted around 9 months later, i know i should check my report more often but as now 7 years down the line i though things would be in a much better state, I've contacted the DMP and they said i need to contact the creditor - are they likely to amend the credit report as not my fault but the DMP ?
3. Would i do this all in writing or over the phone etc ?
bit of a long one but trying to get as much info as possible before i start contacting and writing to them to get it changed.
Thanks
Chris

I think
1) they only drop off six years after a default is issued or last payment - is the one still showing defaulted?
2) When was the default date? you can argue the missed payments - but if you have an AP marker on this account a default is actually better as it will disappear 6 years after the default is registered, even if you are still paying - but if it's an AP with won't drop off until 6 years after you make the final payment - which is *!&"
3) ALWAYS in writing - never on the phone. - but if it went from AP to default and your DMP is a long term one you might be better off with the default.
I'm sure other will comment if this is wrong.0
