    The most important thing is that you take really comfortable shoes as walking on the many cobbled streets is hard on the feet.

    I went at the end of October a couple of years ago and it was uncomfortably hot.

    We also wondered if it was a smart dress code city and so looked on streetview and were reassured that folk there were dressed much the same as here.

    Don't worry, there are plenty of tourists and when I went there were plenty of beggars and they weren't exactly smart. Even visiting the religious sites isn't that big a deal as they will give you something that is basically like a big blue j cloth to wear to cover shoulders or low cut tops.
