Tracker funds, Mutual Funds, ETFs Investments

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie to the whole tracker fund, mutual funds sector and just wanted to know if they are worth investing in.

And what you should be looking for in them etc.

Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

Too general a question really.

What are you investing for and over how long to start with and how does investing fit into your overall financial and life situation (mortgage, dependants, age, pension, cash savings and the like).

In general terms S&S investments have returned 4-5% a year more than inflation but they are volatile and could drop in value by 40-50% in a year before they rebound. Recovering from that dip might take 3-4 years, but IN THE PAST the overall trend has been upwards.

There are lots of threads on here that will help answer some of your queries so take the time to browse through and read up.
