if you go on short runs the battery wont charge much ..try going for a long drive in the daylight to charge the battery“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Why do alternators go to sleep when it gets dark.
In The Olden Days the tiny alternator (or even more reliable & easy to fix dynamo) wouldn't have produced enough current at low speed to charge the battery and have all the lights on.
Nowadays things are less marginal as the fitting of EPS means alternators are higher output, so there is more left over capacity with the lights on.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Charge light should forewarn of that.forgotmyname wrote: »As long as its not a weak alternator thats slowly discharging the battery.
If you want a bit more reassurance, buy a cheap voltmeter off eBay - quid and a bit, if you don't mind waiting for the Chinese post, a quid or two more if you want it from the UK - that plugs into the ciggysocket. You should be seeing a bit over 14v once you're above idle, maybe a little lower with the engine idling and lights/rear window etc on.0 -

My daughter has issue with her fiesta. She had a new alternator in fact the new one had to get replaced under guarantee as it was faulty and then we were told we needed a new battery both are new had them fitted just before xmas. However car wont turn over when we start it and have to bump start it. Any ideas what the problem could be0
