Text Alerts from banks

I am trying to get my account under control. At least 4 times this week I received the following alert from my bank '..your account has insufficient funds for requested payments. To ensure payments are made and avoid an £8.00 fee, transfer £xxxxx today by 15.00' These are genuine bank alerts (not fraud). On each occasion the amount is paid in, in fact sightly more, and on each occasion it has not been enough and contradicts the alert and we get hit with a charge, and interest.
Is the bank's way of ensuring they continually give you charges? I have lodged a complaint with the bank, but want to know what level of any compensation I am entitled to?

Thanks
