Valspar paint

My local B and Q has stopped stocking Crown paint and now has a huge aisle of Valspar paint with a mixer service.
I've only ever used Dulux or Crown in the past, does anyone have any experience with Valspar paint? Is it any good?
Thanks

From what I'd seen online it isn't well regarded, so I was a bit worried when my wife brought some home for us (me) to paint the nursery with.
It wasn't the easiest to get onto the wall with a roller, being very thick. In the end it was hard work but went on OK with a bit of water added. The end result after 2.5 coats (two proper ones and a bit of touching up - time was limited!) was acceptable visually, but I wasn't asking much to cover magnolia in a small room.
Time will tell how it wears but I don't think I'd buy it again if I had the choice.0 -
I have used the premium vinyl matt with added primer and the regular vinyl matt.
The one with primer is horrid to use, was thick and gloopy but looks good. The colour is beautiful.
The regular vinyl matt was fine to use and went on in two easy coats.
The colour choices are vast and the colour matching works on expensive wallpaper, which some machines don't. The colour match was brilliant.
I wouldn't bother with the premium paint, it would have been quicker to prime separately than faff about, but the regular was absolutely fineEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I should have said above, it was the premium one we used as we wanted something that would stand up to a bit of a wipe down if a small person was sick all over it, so this seems consistent with my experience of applying it.0 -
I've used the premium matt (the scrubbable one) over a mist coated wall. The first coat rolled on OK but looked horrible and patchy once dried. However the second coat went on nicely and end result was good - not patchy and only the odd run (down to my average painting skills). Not really tested its scrubbable claims yet.
I certainly wouldn't thin it down as it seemed thin enough to begin with.0 -

Several reviews said the consistency seemed variable, so this thread bears that out.
In terms of coverage I'm pretty sure 2 coats (not 2.5) would have done nicely in my case, but for the fact I was trying to do the whole room with the one can my wife had purchased, so was really trying to apply it sparingly!0 -
We managed one 4x3.5m room with one 5l tin in two coats with enough spare for touch ups so coverage was ok.0

I've used the standard in various places and it was fine. Infinite colour choice is definitely a plus.
The Premium (srcubbable) stuff we used as a kitchen splashback instead of tiles or whatever, and although coverage wasn't great after 2 coats, it looks really good with a 3rd and appears to be durable - still in perfect nick after 2 years.
All of that said, the finish is not comparable to a good claypaint - we also have a mixture of Little Greene, Earthborn and F&B in our house and the finish/opacity and overall quality is obviously far higher than Valspar.0 -
Thanks all. I think we might give it a try. The infinite amount of colour choices are a definite plus point.Determined to save and not squander!

We've also got Little Greene (intelligent emulsion) and Earthborn in our house too. The Little Green we have in the hall/stairs/landing (Slaked Lime) and it is very wipeable although if you rub too hard I've found it will affect the sheen and be noticeable from the right angle.
The Earthborn clay paint looks superb if you like the flat matt look but it has almost no durability and the darker colours do not touch up well at all. We've got light colours in our living room and bedroom which touch up almost invisibly but the darker purple in our dining room (Damson Mousse) has had a few touch-ups and you can see every single one. Also whilst its supposed to be good for damp environments as it is breathable you'd be mad to use it in a kitchen - water will evaporate out but any other liquid will leave a mark.0 -
Painted our entire house with it. I found it a really good paint to use and obviously the colour choice I great. This was the standard one.0
