Returning a faulty item without a receipt

I bought a jumper just before Christmas in oasis and after wearing it twice, a few of the beads on it had fallen off. I returned it to the store and asked to exchange it for the same jumper however I didn't have a receipt. She said that without a receipt she was not able to do anything. Is this correct?
I returned with the receipt and she then said as it had gone down in the sale Now and I had an extra £7 to spend in store. I found a necklace and asked if it was possible to exchange this at a later date if I decided I didn't like it. She said that you are unable to exchange items for a second time. Is this correct?
I was under the impression that if a item is faulty you were able to exchange without a reciept.

Firstly, change of mind type of returns are only allowed if the shop has a returns policy that allows it.
In other words, you have no statutory right to return goods for a refund or exchange simply because you have changed your mind.
Secondly, the shop are perfectly entitled to ask you for proof of purchase when considering a refund or exchange - whether the goods are faulty or not.
And thirdly, it is entirely down to the shop and their returns policy whether they allow more than one 'change of mind' exchange.
All the above assumes that the things were purchased in a real shop. The rules are different for online purchases.0 -
A £7 necklace really?0

I find it strange that they refunded you £7 because the jumper had gone down in the sale?...would they have asked you to pay extra if it had gone up £7?0

it doesn't have to be the receipt though0 -
They often do when prices go down.
Thanks, I've not had much cause through the years to return items so have never!come across it before... So if they had wanted a refund they would get the price paid on receipt, but just want to exchange the jumper so they get a new jumper plus money back, but it seems some people are never happy anyway.0 -

yes
because when you think of it if the store accept returns you could just return get a refund and buy it again at the lower price0 -
