I Have no money and don't know what to do?

I literally have no money, my electric meter is on 68p emergency, My bank is currently -£37 as my wifi bill needed to come out, I have a few packs of noodles to eat (between me and my boyfriend) and i use my out of date buspass to get to work. There's another 20 days before I get paid and i don't know what to do. I already have 3 payday loans out and don't speak to my family so can't borrow (i think I've done enough of that anyway).
I'm at my wits end.

  • Hi, I'm so sorry you are in this predicament

Does your BF have any friends family nearby that could help you out for a short while?

  • Make sure you have some more money on the electricity meter to get you through, though do everything you can to minimise use (charge your phone at work, rather than home, make sure lights are switched off asap when not needed).

Find your local food bank. I know they need referrals but I am not sure how it works, sure they can advise. Please do not go without food because that is not necessary.

Is the £37 all you and your boyfriend have, or all you have? Has there been an incident which has led to your money all but running out quicker than normal? That is assuming this is not a monthly event.

Hi PB22 and welcome to MSE.

This type of situation can be very stressful and the key issue is not to panic. You mentioned that you have several payday loans - have they caused this cash flow problem? If they have then I would suggest getting some free telephone advice about managing these debts in the future so this doesn't happen again, your living costs are always more important than debt repayments.

For this month you need to assess exactly what is due between now and when you and your boyfriend will next get paid/ receive money. If your boyfriend has no family or friends that can help in the short term then you should cancel any non essentials direct debits (especially if that includes payday loans payments). Then go to your local council for possible emergency help - they may be able to refer you to a food bank or give a small amount of emergency funding. Talk to your electric supplier - how much emergency credit do they allow? Do they have any grants or schemes to help people? Good luck

I'm -£37 i wish i had £37. My boyfriend doesn't work at first it was one payday loan but then i was struggling to pay the loan and bills so took out another, thinking i would just do overtime. My hours at work were reduced so i just kept going round in a cycle of taking out loans and then paying them back only to take them out again. I currently have 3 out and everywhere I'm trying now is refusing me. I don't know what to do.

If your boyfriend doesn't work presumably he is claiming ESA? When is that due?

As someone else has said above, speak to your electricity company and see if you can get some help from a food bank. Don't make any more payday loan payments until you have got yourself sorted and cancel any non essential direct debits. If you are only £37 overdrawn will your bank give you a temporary overdraft?

    Check post 5 from ND.

See if your local council can help you.

My opinion, you should default on the PDL's, cancel the CPR' s on them, then sort out a payment plan, when you can afford it.

Get yourself out of the spiral, I know only too well how hard it can be, but you have to be procactive and help yourself, otherwise you will never be rid of them.

  • Not being able to get any more payday loans is a good thing, it sounds like it is the last thing you need.

As was suggested, you need to go to the council and get advice and maybe referred to a foodbank.

If your boyfriend does not work is he claiming benefits like JSA?
